Our Unique Driving Model

Like Tesla, we don’t use LiDAR.

Our driving model is unique. It is based on three things:
  • Probability trajectories updated 15 times a second, and 20 times a second for our faster cars
  • Psychology: a critical part of our driving model
  • Machine Learning. We admire the work of DeepMind, particularly what they did with chess. They are the clear leaders in the Machine Learning world.
The process is:
  1. Our sensors and our object identification system tell us of an object.
  2. We create a trajectory for each object.
  3. The changes in trajectory tells us where the object is likely to be in every second for the next minute.
  4. We then decide the best way for our car to drive over the next minute or so.

A Trajectory is like a hurricane map. It tells us where an object is likely to be in the future, with probabilities attached.
